DRUGS

The scourge of narcotics has affected nearly all aspects of life here in Page County, along with the rest of the Commonwealth and country. Our decades long “War on Drugs” seems to be never-ending.  The damage that meth and other illicit substances have done to our society cannot be overstated.  As Commonwealth’s Attorney, I will continue the work of supporting and prosecuting the cases brought by our local law enforcement to be sure that every effort is made to ensure that our children do not have to be raised in a place where drug use is inevitable.

There are some in our General Assembly who are pushing harder and harder every year to normalize, legalize, or significantly decriminalize this behavior. And while an acknowledgement must be made towards addictive treatment and counseling, I feel that the office of Commonwealth`s Attorney is primarily there to prosecute that which the law has deemed illegal; and I will do so.  I will take full advantage of options for treatment and counseling that are available to me, such as the recent Drug Court established here in Page.  But I will not turn a blind eye to the blatant illegal activity what does not simply stop at drug use, but further devolves into thefts, assaults, and other violent criminal activity.  We will not surrender the “War on Drugs” while I am your Commonwealth`s Attorney.

THEFT & FRAUD

Being from Page, one of the characteristics of our citizenry that I hold most dear is that of our work ethic.  I grew up watching my father get up at 4 every morning to drive hours to a construction site.  I grew up watching family members who ran farms work from sunup to sundown.  Hard work is the true currency of the Page County citizen.

I hold a particular animosity to those among our people who would lie, steal, or defraud their honest and hard-working neighbors.  Life can be challenging and none of us are beyond a mistake or an act of desperation.  But continuous and perpetual acts of theft or moral turpitude must be deterred.

COMMUNITY COMMUNICATION

The office of the Commonwealth`s Attorney fields dozens of calls each week from our citizens who have a wide array of legal questions.  It is difficult to tell them, but our office is not there to provide legal advice.  We can`t.  Our only function is to prosecute the criminal charges that are brought by law enforcement.

I would love to be able to pull from my entire legal knowledge and try to help our citizens with all of their concerns, but ethically our office is prohibited from doing that.  However, our office will never turn away or ignore a phone call or request by a citizen for information that we can give.  We serve at the pleasure of the citizenry and take our role in the law enforcement landscape very seriously.  We may not be able to help with a specific question or provide legal advice that a private practice attorney could, but we stand ready to help you through the process or answer any general questions we can.
